Our spring production is a stage adaptation of the novel by Jean Paul Sartre THE CHIPS ARE DOWN – Les jeux sont faits.
Translated and directed by Ilona Horvath
Synopsis:
The story is said to be set in Paris, in a setting vaguely suggestive of German-occupied northern France (or perhaps Vichy France) during World War II but it doesn’t matter. Despots have always existed.
The plot focuses on two characters, Eve and Peter. They are predestined to be soulmates, but they do not meet because of their premature violent deaths. They only meet once they have arrived in the afterlife. What if they were given a second chance at life? Would they have fallen in love in real life or would the pressure of their unfinished business be in the way?
The living and the dead cross paths on stage. Differentiated by costumes, they ‘live’ side by side. Several scenes take place at same time, at opposite ends of the stage, to immerse the audience in the action.
