Click here for photos from our wonderful production of Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte, adapted by Polly Teale and directed by Pamela Jenkins at La Salle de Chnneyre, Corseaux Polly Teales adaptation of Charlotte Brontes classic novel explores the life of plain governess Jane, focusing on her relationship with Mr Rochester and the mysterious woman from his past. When Jane Eyre was first published in 1847, it shocked many in Victorian society with its story of a heroine whose passionate nature is kept contained by the patriarchal society in which she is educated. Polly Teale is particularly intrigued by the figure of Bertha, the madwoman locked in the attic. Is she real or a projection of Janes own fiery spirit? Teale contrasts these two figures, the demure and obedient Jane and the wild and tempestuous Bertha, to create an intense and visually powerful drama. Cabernet Cabaret
